The Cangive Shopping Network is an innovative online tool that allows shoppers to support Canadian charities and schools at no extra cost. Home computers are a gateway to www.cangive.ca, where shoppers may select their favourite Canadian charitable organization, link to one of 75 leading merchants and shop. Up to 15 per cent of each purchase is automatically calculated and sent to the charity of your choice. In addition to buying items such as books, music and clothing, you can also book flights, purchase Web hosting services or domain names, bid in online auctions and purchase promotional products for your business. Each purchase of products or services through Cangive supports our communities. Items purchased at your favourite merchant through Cangive, are exactly the same price as purchases made directly from the merchant's web site. There is no cost for shoppers or charities to use the Cangive service. Cangive began its pilot project more than a year ago and has re-launched a new Web site just in time for the holiday shopping season. "The Cangive Shopping Network has several new participating charities, new merchants and exciting new features," said Craig MacKinnon, founder and president of Cangive. "Cangive empowers the Canadian consumer by enabling them to make a tremendous difference in the lives of others, simply by purchasing everyday items," added MacKinnon. "The key here is teamwork. Even if individuals make just a single purchase through Cangive each year, collectively, Canadian online shoppers can have a wonderful impact." "The key here is teamwork. Even if individuals make just a single purchase through Cangive.ca each year, collectively, Canadian online shoppers can have a tremendous impact," he said. Among charities participating in the Cangive Shopping Network is MADD Canada (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). MADD is the country's pre-eminent voice on impaired driving. MADD Canada joins Cangive during its most recognizable campaign, Project Red Ribbon, when the organization urges Canadians to drive sober and safe throughout the holiday season. The money raised through MADD Canada's participation with Cangive will go to victims' services and the organization's ongoing effort to reduce the deaths and injuries caused by drinking and driving. "MADD Canada is pleased to be participating in the Cangive program. The Cangive Shopping Network offers a convenient and innovative way to extend charitable support without additional cost to the individual," said Dawn Regan of MADD Canada's National Office. "We ask MADD Canada supporters to shop Cangive this holiday season and make a difference."
